Using tissue paper, modge podge, rhinestones and acrylic paint, I created these 2 mini martini glasses, which will be up for sale at Square Peg Artery in just a few weeks. The first step was to create a frosted glass look using a glass etching cream and the heart shapes actually came from a whimsical tissue paper I had gotten with a gift. I sealed the glasses with a non-toxic varnish, so they are completely washable and usable!

So, I was lucky enough to participate in this FREE jewelery workshop held at Anthropolgie as part of DesignPhiladelphia. Lenora Dame, a local jewelry designer who has been selling her treasures in local stores for over 20 years, gave an easy peasy tutorial on assembling these cool, vintage inspired bracelets! SOOOOO fun....and easy to make. Materials included: metal cuff bracelet (usually you can find these at Claire's), 2 strips of fabric (approx. 3.5 inches each), all kinds of jewelry findings (you can even take apart old jewelry you don't use anymore to make this!) and fabric glue as well as an industrial strength adhesive. I think my next project may be taking broken pieces of my grandmother's jewelry and making them into a bracelet :)

Out of the Blue

So finally....upon entering into the Fall season, inspiration and "Intuition" have struck me once again. I rescued these little champagne glasses from one of my favorite thrift stores, Nana's Attic in Broomall. I added a little paint, tissue paper, and non-toxic varnish, and now they're a mod little grouping of glassware ready for entertaining! Of course, you can find these up for sale at Square Peg Artery in Philly - @ 108 S. 20th St.

Nana's Attic thrift store has really cool glassware treasures that I tend to collect from time to time. The shop accepts donations of previously worn clothing, dishware, craft supplies, etc. Or you can sell your items on consignment. Proceeds collected from sold items benefit the Delaware County Domestic Abuse Project.

Quilts for Kids

With sewing machine in tow, I volunteered yesterday with Quilts for Kids :) Left over fabric scraps are savaged locally and donated to be sewn into quilts by volunteers and the quilts are given to sick children in local hospitals. All you need is a basic knowledge of sewing and a few hours later, you will have a finished quilt for a child in need. I volunteered at Steve's sewing, vacuum and quilting in King of Prussia. The instructor was great and I learned a lot about quilting!

Lemon Zinger Tea Cups

So I recently took a trip with some friends to Disneyland in CA and I instantly fell in love with the tea cups ride, which inspired these little Lemony glass cups. I repurposed them using fimo clay & Studio bake and bond(a fabulous adhesive I discovered through Dana from Handmade Philly) to attach the designs. When I'm finished, I'll have a set of four tea cups and matching saucers :-)

Shabby Chic

I've been thinking about this project for a while & finally it's happening! :) This old UGLY wood cabinet was in my bathroom since I moved in 8 years ago. I painted it white, added some mosaic tiles & marbles in pinks, lavendars and sea green, and also attached pretty peach glass knobs. A pretty addition for my bathroom storage...

Pretty Little Pillows

So one of the great benefits of working at an interior design firm is getting free fabric samples (usually discontinued fabric, that's headed to the trash bin).....so I saved these lovely little fabric scraps and made them into pillows =) These will be up for sale in a few weeks at Square Peg Artery.....

Cotton Candy Dreamz

So I bought this CUTE set of 2 metal chairs from Harry's treasures & collectibles in Ardmore. They were originally white and had some outdated upolstery attached to them. Since I had a few days off from work this week, I decided to take them apart and spray paint them cotton candy pink =) Next step will be to buy new upolstery fabric for the cushions....I'm thinking maybe a zebra print....sassy!

Just a few photos I've taken of things that have inspired me over the summer =)I snapped this photo of some pretty daisies I spotted at a park in Broomall when I was taking a morning walk in July.

This is a photo of my baby nephew in his fireman hat on a REAL firetruck! Baby Tony is an inspiration for sure. It took my sister 10 years to have him. So we appreciate every minute we have with him =)

I was shopping in Borders one night and spotted this journal with a really pretty color palette.

This was my happy hour view in Philly one night after work.

And THIS is Jon Bon Jovi in a gold lame' suit. Does it get any more inspirational than this?! LOL!

Celebrate Summer...

These little glass dessert plates will be a set of 4 when they're finished. Using fabric lace as my template, I spray painted the back with 2 colors and coated them with non-toxic varnish. Matchstick Girl

Comcast Cares Day

Over the weekend, my nephew & I volunteered with a few friends for Comcast Cares Day to help build Freedom Playground in Havertown.

Freedom Playground is custom-designed to include children with disabilities, so that every child has a chance to play :) Over the course of the day, we shoveled rocks,carried lumber, organized fence posts engraved with donors' names and painted a roof for one of the towers.

But the REALLY fun part for me, was having the chance to see some of the murals in process, as well as the unfinished elephant cut-out (which I wanted to paint giant polka dots on - lol - but I resisted the urge)

I had the pleasure of taking an embroidery class with Julie Rockhold, Textile and Fiber Artisan and owner of Stellar Threads. What a FUN class! She made it easy to learn and added some laughter & spunk with her great sense of humor. =) We used silk ribbon and embroidery floss....it's amazing what you can make with a few simple stitches. I'm making a set of 2 candle holders from mason jars, beads and wire. I'll be adding some sand and a candle inside each one and when they're finished, they can be set out on a patio table or you can hang them from the handle =) Couldn't you see these outside on a hot summer night with a good friend and glass of something bubbly?

Galaxy of Galleries

In 1 week I'll be immersing myself in the "City of the Arts" - surprisingly, not New York -- but Winston Salem, NC. A hidden gem! The city's downtown arts district had a ton of art galleries, handmade consignment shops and workshops you can sign up for. Who knew? My friend Joe, who lives down there is going to gallery & bar hop with me for a few days. And yes, I'm getting my pink cowgirl hat ready because he's also taking me to a country concert!

Year of the Tiger

I had the chance to do a little mini workshop on silkscreening at the Fabric Museum today with Handmade Philly. Since it's the year of the tiger in Chinese astrology, I instantly fell in love with this pattern. I printed this cute tee w/ orange and pink fabric paints -- the trick is to heat set them with an iron so the paint forms a permanent bond -- and it then becomes a washable shirt :)

Baubles & Beads

These spunky salad servers will spice up any dinner table ;-) I started with stainless steel utensils and added some glass gems with industrial strength adhesive. Using 24 guage stainless steel wire I wrapped a few glass beads for some added pizazz!

Crescent Moon Sun Catcher

I made this little sun catcher starting with a pink sparkly crescent moon crystal & added some jewel tones.

This will be one of the new items up for sale as soon as I get my Etsy shop up and running again, which will hopefully be within the next few weeks. Another project I have on tap are Tarot Card coasters as well as beaded serving utensils =)

Sweetheart Serving Utensils

I created this funky serving set using stainless steel utensils. Wrapping 24-guage stainless steel wire tightly to each utensil, I added a variety of glass and metal beads to make them into functional pieces of art :)

I have my first artist meeting tonight at Fishtown Airways (a new gallery featuring local / handmade art) and hopefully this set will be up for sale there in the month of December. Fishtown Airways is located at 200 E. Girard Ave. in Philadelphia, just down the block from Johnny Brenda's.

My little nephew Tony says it's a star - I'd have to say I agree since it has a variety of metallic beads. I made this little ornament after attending a bead class at Potomac Bead Co. in Phoenixville, PA w/ my friend Stephanie over the weekend. This place is HUGE! Beads in every color you could imagine and they have really cool classes.

Jazzy Party Spreaders

"Speak from the Heart" Cocktail Ring

I made this ring with 20 guage wire and a pretty little art glass bead. The two colors represent the heart chakra (light green) and the throat chakra / voice (blue) - so that's where I came up with the name =) The ring is a size 7 and is also available for sale on Etsy. Dragon Fly Donation

I've donated this sparkly dragon fly sun catcher to a raffle to raise money for breast cancer. And here is the finished "Good Witch" Glass. I decided on purple metallic paint for the bottom. You can see the word "Good" through the glass on the other side. The lettering is swarovski crystal and the large bead on the front is a half moon art glass bead. You'll have to come to the event (info at bottom posting) to see my other 5 glasses, including Hello Kitty and the "Bad Witch" =D This is my last posting until after the Sept. 9 event. Off to the beach =)

"My Heart's a Flutter" Martini Glass

Just finishing up this hot pink cutie that will be up for sale at the Sept. 9 art expo / happy hour =) It's adorned with glass beads with a funky swirly paper decoupaged to the bottom. I'm sealing it with several coats of non-toxic varnish to make it a hand-washable party piece.

Art Expo and Networking Event

This is my very first posting...and I just signed up for my first Art Expo, which is happening on September 9. Lots of "firsts" for me =) The event will be hosted by the Philadelphia chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (PhillaNOMA). This Peacock martini glass is 1 of 8 / 10 glasses I've made that I will have for sale at the event. Of course there will be other artists and crafters displaying their wares, too.
